General Atomics
General Atomics is an American energy and defense corporation headquartered in San Diego, California. Founded in 1955 by physicist brothers Dr. J. Robert Beyster and Dr. Neal Beyster, the company initially began its research on the nuclear fuel cycle, followed by developing nuclear magnetic resonance imaging machines for medical use while also beginning to embark upon the development of a ‘controlled thermonuclear fusion’ technology that would eventually become the basis of their work in military weaponry engineering. In 1996, General Atomics Aviation Systems was created as a division that focused on building Unmanned Combat Air Vehicles (UCAV) and other remotely-operated drones for aerospace defence applications and surveillance operations; due to their success within this area, virtual reality training solutions were developed for both civilian and military customers alike. Today, General Atomics owns multiple subsidiaries which encompass various different business areas including renewable energy production, biotechnologies and public safety & security monitoring services all spread across 17 countries worldwide with several hundred locations around the world such as factories, laboratories or offices.
