WW Grainger
W. W. Grainger, Inc., is an American Fortune 500 industrial supply company founded in 1927 and headquartered in Lake Forest, Illinois. The company distributes maintenance, repair, and operating (MRO) supplies—ranging from motors to hand tools—as well as services such as inventory management and technical support across a wide range of industries. The company serves more than 2 million customers ranging from small businesses to large institutions with around 700 locations in North America and one branch in Asia; its major markets include the United States, Mexico, Canada, India and China. William Wallace Grainger began operations out of a Chicago mailorder shop with $1,000 he had saved up from odd jobs before World War I; his focus was on electric motors for factories. Over the years the company grew significantly through acquisition of other businesses specializing in service—such as ventilation system installation or spare parts delivery—and merchandise sales – office supplies, saws just to name two examples - resulting ultimately in more than 150 branches across US offering both sales & services. In 2017 revenues were over 11bn US Dollars making it one of the biggest distributors for MRO Supplies worldwide.
