W. W. Grainger, Inc., is an American Fortune 500 industrial supply company founded in 1927 and headquartered in Lake Forest, Illinois. The company distributes maintenance, repair, and operating (MRO) supplies—ranging from motors to hand tools—as well as services such as inventory management and technical support across a wide range of industries. William Wallace Grainger began operations out of a Chicago mailorder shop with $1,000 he had saved up from odd jobs before World War I; his focus was on electric motors for factories.
