Vail
Vail is a world-renowned ski resort town located in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Founded in 1962, Vail has become one of the largest and most popular ski resorts in North America. The town was originally developed by noted skier Pete Seibert and his partner Earl Eaton, who searched for a suitable location for their proposed development during 1960 and 1961 before choosing the area that was eventually to become Vail. After two years of planning and building, the resort opened on December 15, 1962 with five chairlifts servicing eight trails on what is now called Vail Mountain. Since then, expansion has included additional lifts to service an added 600 acres every year, with over 5500 acres currently skiing terrain accessible by 34 lifts. In addition to its expansive ski area, Vail also offers winter activities such as snowmobiling, ice-skating and tubing while summertime brings even more adventure – mountain biking trails, zip lining courses and other outdoor pursuits can be found throughout the resort area’s beautiful landscapes.
