Service Corporation International (SCI) is a Fortune 1000 company that is one of the largest providers of death care products and services in the world. It was founded in 1962 by Robert L. Waltrip in Houston, Texas under the name Service Corporation of America. The company grew through mergers and acquisitions until it went public in 1986 as SCI, making it the first publicly traded deathcare company. Today its network of funeral homes, cemeteries, cremation centers and flower shops spans across North America and offers a range of traditional burial and cremation services as well as pre-need planning products. It also sells a variety of memorial merchandise including markers, urns, portraits, bouquets and vaults among many other items to customers onsite or through online stores. With private ownership since 2020 when Stone Canyon Industries acquired them from Apollo Global Management LLC., SCI continues to be an industry leader with more than 200 locations across North America serving millions people each year who are dealing with end-of-life matters.
