Sanford
Sanford is a leading manufacturer and marketer of high-quality writing instruments in the United States. Founded by Frederick W. Redington in 1857, Sanford began as a small wooden pencil business run out of Chicago, Illinois. By 1915, the company had become one of the largest pencil producers in America under the management of Louis Eberhard Wolf, who invented the first machinery used to grade pencils according to quality standards. Wolf also championed an innovative breakaway point system which revolutionized how mechanical pencils were manufactured. During World War II, Sanford provided fountain pens and other office supplies for military use and continued to grow with further advances in both technology and new product development over time into being one of America's most respected writing instrument manufacturers today.
