PG&E Corporation, founded in 1905 as Pacific Gas and Electric Company, is an investment holding company that manages its energy-related businesses through two primary operating subsidiaries: Pacific Gas and Electric Company (utility operations) and PG&E Energy Trading. It is a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol PCG. PG&E provides natural gas and electric service to most of California’s population. Its core business areas include electricity generation, transmission, distribution, and storage; purchasing and selling electricity; distributing natural gas; developing renewable energy sources such as wind power; providing related energy services; designing energy-efficiency programs; performing energy surveys; responding to customer call-outs for electric or natural gas emergencies or disruptions in service. The company also has parts of telecommunications, real estate development and investments. Through its subsidiaries it serves approximately 16 million people throughout Northern California in 70 cities, primarily from San Francisco Bay northward towards Oregon state line including Lodi/Stockton area to Fresno/Bakersfield area down south.
