"Peter Kiewit Sons is a worldwide construction, engineering and mining company founded in 1884 by Peter Kiewit in Omaha, Nebraska. Since its beginnings as a one-man enterprise, the company has grown to become one of the leading companies of its kind, with operations on six continents in North America, Europe and Asia. Today it employees over 21 tpeople across its many divisions and subsidiaries. The company's first projects were small roadways and bridges located mainly in Nebraska and Iowa during the late 1800s. After those early successes, Peter Kiewit quickly moved into larger ventures such as the construction of dams throughout The West, which included building Hoover Dam near Las Vegas and Boulder Dam (now known as Hoover Dam). The company also expanded into energy production with several oil pipelines, power stations, nuclear plants built throughout North America beginning in 1940 through 1990. By 1950 Kiewit had offices throughout Canada & Mexico too. In addition to their core business activities such as infrastructure development & consulting services, they have been involved with natural resources exploration & extraction since 1967. This includes diamonds mining operations in Canada; coal mines Mexico's Sonora province; copper mines Chile's Atacama desert; gold mining Peru; oil fields Texas Gulf coast & technological work for NASA’s space shuttle program among other projects around the world since then."
