Old Dominion Freight Line
Old Dominion is an American less-than-truckload (LTL) shipping company headquartered in Thomasville, North Carolina. Founded in 1934 as a short-haul LTL carrier by Earl Congdon and his son, OD began with a single truck hauling freight between Richmond and Norfolk, Virginia. By 1989 the company had grown to over 250 tractors and 500 trailers servicing 10 states from its base in Thomasville, NC. In 1997 Old Dominion became one of the first companies to provide web enabled tracking technology for customers. They continued to grow through acquisitions of competitors and additional geographic expansion that extended their service area throughout the US and into Canada. Today they are one of the largest LTL carriers with annual revenue topping $10 billion dollars and providing transportation solutions to thousands of customers across multiple industries including consumer retail, manufacturing, healthcare, automotive and eCommerce.
