Norton Healthcare, Inc. is a nonprofit health care system based in Louisville, Kentucky, and it is the leading medical provider for Louisville and the surrounding areas. Founded in 1886 as Louisville City Hospital by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, Norton Healthcare has grown to become the largest employer of Kentucky's third-largest city with more than 17,000 employees. The healthcare system includes five acute-care hospitals: Norton Hospital downtown; Norton Audubon Hospital in Northeast Louisville; Norton Women's & Children's Hospital; Blessed Savior Nursing Home/Rhoads Center Rehabilitation Services; and Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown. Norton Healthcare also offers primary care and specialty physician services through its network which includes 750 providers working from 45 offices throughout Greater Louisville and Southern Indiana. In addition, Norton has an extensive home health program that helps patients remain in their own residences for long-term care.
