Hobart And William Smith Colleges
Hobart and William Smith Colleges (HWS) is a private liberal arts institution located in Geneva, New York. Founded as Hobart College in 1822 by Episcopal Bishop John Henry Hobart, the college was originally an all-male school. In 1908, women were invited to enroll at an affiliated institution called William Smith College. Today, the two schools are collectively known as HWS and offer 50 majors and community-focused programs for both undergraduate and graduate students. The majority of its students participate in study abroad programs, internships or civic engagement initiatives such as Service Immersion Programs or volunteerism in local communities. Additionally, HWS has 18 NCAA Division III sports teams that compete in the Liberty League conference. It is also known for multiple student organizations on campus such as theater productions and music ensembles alongside multiple cultural events which are organized by clubs for students from diverse backgrounds to celebrate their cultures with others on campus.
