Hertz is a global car rental company, established in Chicago, Illinois over 100 years ago. Founded by Walter Jacobs in 1918 as an independent local car rental business, the company was acquired by John D. Hertz – who renamed it "The Hertz Drive-Ur-Self System" – in 1923 and incorporated two years later. By 1926, The Hertz Corporation had grown to include more than seventy locations throughout the United States, with cars available for rent on an hourly, daily or weekly basis. Today, Hertz operates around 11000 branches in more than 150 countries across 4 continents and maintains a fleet of approximate well-known subsidiaries include Dollar Rent A Car and Thrifty Car Rental. In 2020 the company became the official vehicle partner of Formula 1 racing under its new “Driven By” brand Experience program.
