BP
BP is a multinational energy company headquartered in London, United Kingdom that provides its customers with fuel for transportation, energy for heat and light, retail services, and petrochemical products for everyday items. BP has operations in over 70 countries worldwide with over 70,000 employees. The company's history can be traced back to 1909 when the Anglo-Persian Oil Company was established as an oil exploration company located in Persia. Today it is known as BP after merging with Amoco (American Oil Company) in 1998, and then continuing on to acquire many other companies including Arco (Atlantic Richfield Petroleum Corporation), Burmah Castrol Plc., Veba Öl AG (Germany), and most recently Rosneft. In 2010 BP experienced one of the largest disasters ever caused by man when the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded at their Macondo Prospect drilling site off the coast of Louisiana resulting in 11 people losing their lives and damaging numerous environments around the Gulf Coast. Since this event occurred BP has taken responsible steps towards making changes within their production processes to ensure future safety measures are enhanced significantly.
