The company was founded in 1927 by Arthur Jeremiah Gallagher, when he opened a small office in Illinois to sell life insurance and became a founding member of the National Association of Insurance Brokers (NAIB). Over the past nine decades, Arthur J. In May 2019, they acquired the risk management business of benefits provider Brown & Brown Inc which increased their total revenues to $7 billion dollars worldwide making it one of the largest publicly traded brokering firms globally. This acquisition also made them the largest employee benefits intermediary in North America by revenue. In addition to its brokering operation, they also have subsidiaries that offer claim adjusting as well as specialized market strategies for clients across multiple industries such as aviation and energy source providers.
