AEP
American Electric Power (AEP) is an electric utility holding company that has a long history of providing electricity services to customers in 11 states. Founded in 1906 as the American Gas and Electric Company, AEP began operations with two electricity-generating plants in West Virginia. It soon acquired several other generating plants and power companies throughout the Midwest, expand its reach to Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and Virginia. Today, AEP supplies electricity to more than 5 million customers across multiple states through its subsidiaries Appalachian Power Company; Indiana Michigan Power; Kentucky Power; Kingsport Power Company; Public Service Company of Oklahoma; Southwestern Electric Power Company; Wheeling Power Company and AEP Texas Central. The company also continues to invest heavily in energy efficiency programs, renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power as well as traditional sources of power such as nuclear.
