7 Eleven
7 Eleven is one of the world’s largest convenience store chains, with more than 67,000 stores internationally. Founded in 1927 as “Tote'm Stores” by Joe C. Thompson in Dallas, Texas, the company primarily sold bread, milk and eggs to neighborhoods that lacked large grocery stores. In 1928, Thompson changed the store's name to 7-11 so customers would know when the store was open: from 7am to 11pm. Over time it began selling beer and other types of food products before broadening its product selection to include just about anything a customer might need for daily life including groceries, drinks and snacks. In 1946, it became the first retailer to offer self-service gasoline and since then has expanded into many countries around the world including Malaysia, Japan, Thailand, Canada and China. It is now owned by Seven & I Holdings Co., Ltd., which operates over 10 retailing brands across 22 different countries under its umbrella.
