The Henry M. Jackson Foundation For The Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. (HJF) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to supporting the Military Health System (MHS). HJF was founded in 1983 by Dr. Frederick L. Becker as a way to honor Senator Henry M. Jackson and his commitment to military medicine and health research. Since then, it has grown to become the largest nonprofit provider of research administration services for government-sponsored medical research programs within the Department of Defense (DoD), including those sponsored by the U.S Army, Navy and Air Force Medical Departments and other agencies such as the Department of Veterans Affairs, National Institutes fo Health, NASA, FDA and USAMRIID. Among its many activities are managing contracts for large collaborative DoD clinical research initiatives; providing administrative support for over 1,000 active grants totaling more than $1 billion annually; facilitating peer review activities across services; offering scientific solutions to advance deployment readiness; creating travel grant awards; developing strategic partnerships with leading academic institutions nationwide; hosting professional meetings and conferences; administering education & training opportunities for military medical personnel; executing community outreach activities in support of returning service members transitioning out of active duty military service into civilian life.
