The Bon-ton Stores Contribution
The Bon-Ton Stores is an American department store chain founded in 1898 by Max Grumbacher and his son, Samuel. Originally based in York, Pennsylvania, the company currently operates over 270 stores located in 23 states across the Midwest and Northeastern regions of the United States. The retail locations are made up of Hudson’s Bay Company owned Lord & Taylor stores as well as regional chains like Carson’s, Elder-Beerman, Herberger's and Younkers. Throughout its history, The Bon-Ton Stores has adapted to changing consumer demands by expanding its product offerings from apparel and accessories to include home goods such as furniture and bedding. In 2017 the company declared bankruptcy due to an increasingly competitive retail landscape. Since then it has been attempting to revive itself by restructuring debt and launching modern marketing initiatives such as their Design Crew private label brand.
