Spirit Airlines, Inc. is an ultra-low-cost airline headquartered in Miramar, Florida that operates flights throughout the United States, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Founded by Bentley C. Hayes in 1983 as Clipper Trucking Company, the airline was initially focused on air cargo services for auto parts between Detroit and Miami. After a series of changes in ownership and company structure over the following years, Spirit Airlines launched operations with passenger flights from Detroit to Atlantic City International Airport in May 1990. The airline has since grown steadily over three decades into one of the largest ultra-low cost airlines globally, now serving more than 70 million passengers each year with an extensive network connecting customers across 50 countries. Spirit's fleet currently consists of 197 Airbus A320 family aircraft and 20 A321neo aircrafts primarily dedicated to short haul routes with durations up to four hours.
