Seagate US LLC is a global provider of data storage solutions, with its headquarters in Fremont, California. Founded in 1979 by Alan Shugart, Finis Conner and Doug Mahon, the company has been at the forefront of innovation in both hard disk drive and solid-state technologies for over 40 years. It designs and manufactures hard drives, desktop external drives, server components, backup systems as well an array hybrid solutions such as cloud storage. Seagate was initially best known for its 8-inch floppy disks released in 1980; however it quickly gained prominence with the release of the 5¼‑inch 20 MB ST-506 which became one of the industry's first large capacity hard drives on the market. By 1986 Seagate had created their first 10MB microdrive which stored 10 times more data than traditional 3½ inch floppies allowing products to become smaller whilst still containing massive amounts of information. In 1989 Seagate introduced their Barracuda series of Hard Disk Drives which are now considered to be one of the most reliable brands on the market used across almost all computing platforms from home use to enterprise servers worldwide. Since then they have continued to innovate and push forward technology trends including producing some of world's most highly regarded solid state devices as well as being heavily involved within hyperscale storage solutions used by some of world’s largest data centers today.
