Nexstar Media Group, Inc. is one of the largest local media companies in the United States. It owns, operates, and/or provides services to 197 television stations in 115 markets across the country. The company was founded as Nexstar Broadcasting Group in 1996 by Perry Sook after he acquired WYOU-TV (now WBRE-TV) in Wilkes-Barre Scranton, Pennsylvania from Diversified Communications for less than $1 million. Over time, Nexstar purchased dozens of other television stations until it rebranded itself as Nexstar Media Group following a merger with Tribune Media Company iin 2019. It now serves nearly 39 percent of television households across the country as well as websites, apps and digital services related to its broadcast offerings.
