Microchip Technology Inc
Microchip Technology Incorporated, or simply Microchip, is an American manufacturer of microcontrollers and specialized semiconductor products. It was founded by Steve Sanghi in 1989 as "System General Corporation" after he had acquired several small companies that produced a diverse range of electronic components. Initially manufacturing memory chips for automotive applications, the company's product line grew to include additional kinds of integrated circuits such as general purpose microprocessors, display drivers and analog signal conditioners. By 1994 System General had established itself as one of the world’s top manufacturers of memory chips and other first-generation semiconductor devices. In 1993 the company changed its name to “Microchip Technology Inc” and went public on NASDAQ in June 1998 at $14 per share with symbol MCHP. Since then it has seen rapid growth in revenue and market capitalization through acquisitions including Atmel (2016), Microsemi (2018) and Micrel (2019). Nowadays they are known for their industry-leading 32 bit MCUs, digital signal controllers, 8 bit PIC® MCUs & KEELOQ® security solutions which are used worldwide by hundreds of thousands customers from various industries including consumer electronics, automotive & industrial automation making them an established leader in embedded control systems design.
