J M Smucker Co is an American manufacturer of food products, founded in 1897 by Jerome Monroe Smucker. The company started out as a small family business, milling flour and selling apple butter from their home in Ohio. In the early 1900s they moved into the processed food industry, producing jams and jellies. Their first product was called “Smuckers Raspberry Preserves” which was made from wild red raspberries grown in Canada. Over the years, J M Smucker Co has expanded to other areas of the food industry, offering products such as peanut butter, beverages, syrups, jellies and preserves – many of which have become household staples around the world. Today J M Smucker Company is one of the leading manufacturers for fruit spreads and preserves with retail sales amounting to more than three billion dollars per year.
