Grand Canyon University, Inc.
Grand Canyon University, Inc. is a private for-profit Christian university located in Phoenix, Arizona. Founded in 1949 as Grand Canyon College, GCU began serving students on its main campus near downtown Phoenix in 1951. In 2004 the college became the first college or university to be certified by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). In 2008, Grand Canyon Education (GCE) was created as a new publicly traded parent company of which GCU became a wholly owned subsidiary. At that time GCE also assumed ownership of Grand Canyon University Online which provides online degree programs all over the world and has been accredited since 2010 by HLC. The growth of these programs has allowed enrollment at the university to grow from 20,000 student in 2016 to approximately 90,000 students 2019 while still providing an engaging campus experience with more than 100 traditional student clubs and organizations.
