GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) is a British multinational healthcare company headquartered in Brentford, London. GSK was formed in 2000 by the merger of two leading companies: Glaxo Wellcome, established in 1895, and SmithKline Beecham, established in 1827. Today GSK is one of the world's largest pharmaceutical and consumer health companies, with offices in over 115 countries around the world. The company's core areas of focus are Pharmaceuticals and Vaccines (human healthcare), Consumer Healthcare and Oncology – each supported by Discovery research. It produces many products including prescription medicines, vaccines as well as consumer health products, such as toothpaste and mouthwash. In 2020 GSK also acquired Tesaro Inc., a cancer-focused pharmaceutical company expanding their oncology portfolio even further.
