E. & J. Gallo Winery, Inc., founded in 1933 by Ernest and Julio Gallo in Modesto, California, is the largest winery in the world by volume of sales. It produces a large variety of wines ranging from table to sparkling wines. With more than 8,200 vineyards covering over 140,000 acres throughout California’s Central Valley and other parts of the country such as Washington State and New York State, they are the leading producer of American wine with an estimated one out of every four bottles consumed worldwide coming from their wineries. In addition to producing its own wine brands such as Barefoot Cellars and Gallo Family Vineyards, they also produce over 60 different varieties for other labels including Woodbridge By Robert Mondavi and Edna Valley Vineyard under agreements with Charles Krug Wines and Fetzer Vineyards amongst others. The company also distributes wines globally to countries like Japan, Italy, France and Spain among many others.
