Consolidated Nuclear Security, LLC (CNS) is a joint venture between Bechtel National, Inc. and Lockheed Martin Corporation that was established in July 2012. It is responsible for managing the Y-12 National Security Complex and the Pantex Plant owned by the U.S. Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). The creation of CNS was part of NNSA's commitment to transforming its nuclear security enterprise into a unified organization focused on safeguarding and augmenting national security. CNS provides support for both facilities, including management and operations services, as well as infrastructure modernization aimed at improving performance and environmental protection. Additionally, it provides related design services for existing and future programs relating to tasks supporting Stockpile Stewardship Programs such as nuclear stockpile surveillance activities; scientific research; maintenance; technology integration; fuel cycle development; emergency preparedness; and other operations required or recommended to meet national security needs.
