Bank of the West is a regional financial services holding company based in San Francisco, California. It was founded in 1874 by a group of entrepreneurs and financiers including Charles Foster and William Dargie as Farmers National Gold Bank. In 1974, it merged with Bank of California to form Bank of the West and since then it has grown to become one of the largest banks in the western United States. It currently operates over 600 retail banking branches across 19 Western and Midwestern states, as well as business banking offices throughout the nation.
