Whataburger Restaurants is an American regional fast food chain based out of San Antonio, Texas that specializes in hamburgers. Founded in 1950 by burger enthusiast Harmon Dobson, the company has since become a highly popular dining destination and currently operates over 815 locations across 10 US states. The menu consists primarily of burgers with various toppings alongside other items such as chicken sandwiches, French fries, breakfast tacos and milkshakes. Whataburger became known for its unique ‘A-Frame’ restaurants featuring large A-frame roofs which were easily recognizable from long distances, acting as giant signposts for diners traveling down the highway. As demand grew over the decades, many new locations were built and traditional restaurant designs were replaced by more modern ones although the A-frame design remains ever present at select establishments to this day. In 2019 Whataburger was acquired by BDT Capital Partners but continues to maintain their corporate operations in San Antonio.
