Univision Communications Inc. is a media company with assets in television, radio, digital, and other content platforms. It was founded as Spanish International Network by Emilio Nicolas Sr., who purchased the KWEX channel 41 in San Antonio, Texas. His son Emilio Nicolas Jr. took over operations of SIN in 1971; eventually renaming it Univision after merging it with its competitor Galavisión in 1987. The company launched its flagship network Univision on April 7th 1987 and has since gone on to become the 5th largest television network in the United States reaching 98% of Hispanic households with 93 local broadcast stations across the country. In addition to its broadcast channels, Univision also owns cable networks including UniMás (formerly TeleFutura), El Rey Network, Flama, Uforia Audio Network and Galavisión; as well as various online video sites such as Univision Now and UVideos . They also own 62 radio stations across 16 of America’s major markets and multiple publishing houses producing print magazines such as Premier & Tu Ciudad (Los Angeles & New York).
