Under Armour, Inc.
Under Armour, Inc. is a Baltimore-based sports apparel and accessories company that has grown to become one of the largest sportswear brands in the world. Founded in 1996 by former University of Maryland football player Kevin Plank, Under Armour initially specialized in moisture-wicking fabrics designed to keep athletes cool and dry during workouts. The company continued to expand its product line over the next decade, with offerings including shoes, golf clothing, children's apparel, and other performance wear. In 2006, it began selling its products in retail stores like Foot Locker and Dick’s Sporting Goods. By 2017, Under Armour earned more than $5 billion in annual revenue from sales of its products worldwide. The company has come a long way since Plank first started selling t-shirts out of his grandmother’s basement two decades ago—it now boasts celebrity endorsers ranging from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to Steph Curry—and continues to experiment with new technologies like 3D printing for innovative materials used in sports apparel.
