Tropicana Entertainment Inc.
Tropicana Entertainment Inc. is a privately owned casino and hospitality firm based in Las Vegas, Nevada in the United States. Originally founded as Aztar Corporation in 1982, it was acquired by Columbia Entertainment Corporation in 2003 before being sold to Philadelphia-based developer Tropicana Gaming Partners LLC (a partnership between New York-based investor Group and William J. Yung III) three years later. Following its acquisition by Tropicana Gaming Partners, the company changed its name to Tropicana Entertainment Inc. and expanded into Atlantic City with two new casinos, Tropicana Casino & Resort Atlantic City and The Quarter at Tropicana Casino & Resort Atlantic City. In 2009, the company purchased Riviera Holdings Corporation's two casinos – the now-closed Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and Grand Casino in Tunica – for $31 million dollars; however they were eventually sold off because of competition from newer megaresorts on the Las Vegas Strip. Today, the company continues to own 11 gaming properties across 8 states including Indiana, Mississippi, Missouri Louisiana and Iowa alongside several restaurants and entertainment venues such as comedy clubs and live music venues.
