The University of Notre Dame du Lac, founded in 1842 by Father Edward Sorin, C.S.C., is a private Catholic research university located in Notre Dame, Indiana. It is the oldest and largest Catholic university in the United States and has a rich history steeped in its faith-based mission to “educate young people for responsible lives of leadership and service to society”. Since its founding over 175 years ago, the University has grown significantly with 12 colleges and schools offering more than 80 undergraduate majors across many fields including engineering, science, business, arts & letters, law school , medicine and architecture. Its renowned faculty include three Nobel Laureates - John Fenn (Chemistry 2002), John Hume (Peace 1979) and George Davis Snell (Medicine 1980). The University also boasts 33 National Academy members as well as numerous Fulbright Scholars. Today it remains committed to its original values while providing excellent academic opportunities to students from all backgrounds.
