Suntrust Banks
Suntrust Banks, Inc. is one of the largest banking organizations in the United States and operates primarily in the southeastern region of the country. It was founded in 1891 as Commercial Travelers Savings Bank by John M. Green and six other associates in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1911 it changed its name to Trust Company of Georgia after merging with Gate City and later merged again with Central Bank & Trust Co., forming an organization that would become known as C&S/Sovran Corporation (later NationsBank). After a series of large mergers, acquisitions and divestitures C&S/Sovran eventually combined forces with SunBanks in 1995 to create SunTrust Banks, Inc., which is today one of the largest holding companies for banks in the US. The company has operations across 11 states and maintains over 1,400 branches nationwide providing retail banking services such as financial advisory services, mortgage lending services and wealth management.
