SUMMA Health is a not-for-profit, faith-based healthcare system serving the greater Akron area in Northeast Ohio. Established in 1989 through the merger of Akron City Hospital and Summit General (formerly St. Thomas Hospital), SUMMA has grown to become one of the largest employers in the region with more than 7000 employees and 1,000 physicians on staff. Their services include five hospitals (Akron City Hospital, St. Thomas Hospital, Wadsworth Rittman Hospital, Barberton Citizens Hospital and Robinson Memorial Hospital), two freestanding emergency centers (Akron Campus ER & Medina Campus ER) and numerous health care facilities throughout Northeast Ohio such as primary care offices and specialty medical practices. SUMMA also offers home health services along with community-based health education initiatives for those wanting to learn more about preventive care options available to them.
