St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Inc.
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Inc., founded in 1962 by entertainer Danny Thomas, is a non-profit research hospital dedicated to treating and eradicating childhood cancers and other life-threatening diseases. St. Jude relies heavily on donations and fundraisers for it’s funding— with over 75% of total operating costs covered by private contributions — as well as government grants and internal funds from its affiliated ALSAC/St. Jude organization which supports the hospital's mission. It has led groundbreaking research that has advanced pediatric healthcare, accomplishing major scientific breakthroughs such as developing the first successful cures for childhood leukemia in 60 years using a combination of chemotherapy, radiation, and bone marrow transplants. Today St Jude remains one of the world’s first centers to focus exclusively on children battling catastrophic illnesses such as cancer, immune disorders, sickle cell anemia, neurological diseases, among others.
