Spectrum Health
Spectrum Health is a non-profit, integrated health system based in West Michigan. Founded in 1997 and headquartered in Grand Rapids, the system includes 13 hospitals, 200 ambulatory and service sites, two nursing homes, and nearly 25,000 employees. Spectrum Health is one of the top employers in Michigan with more than 14 million patient visits annually. It also cares for patients from 48 states and 32 countries around the world. The organization's mission is to improve their communities' health by providing high quality care at an affordable cost. Spectrum Health was founded as an affiliation between Butterworth Hospital (now known as Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital) and Blodgett Memorial Medical Center meant to enhance access to healthcare services while improving medical outcomes through coordination of care among these organizations. In 2009 they added Helen DeVos Children's Hospital to their network followed by Pennock Hospital located near Grand Rapids which joined them in 2014 along with other affiliate physicians practices throughout western Michigan . To further improve healthcare access for the communities it serves Spectrum Health has actively pursued telemedicine initiatives such as its Virtual Care Anywhere program launched 2015 that allows families at home or on vacation to connect directly with pediatric specialists within 24 hours for acute care needs without having to make a trip into town.
