Southern California Gas Company
The Southern California Gas Company (also known as SoCalGas) is a natural gas distribution company in the United States. It services approximately 21 million people and 5 million businesses throughout central and southern California, reaching from Ventura County in the north to Mexican border in the south, and the Pacific Ocean to parts of Nevada, Arizona, and Baja California. Founded on October 15th, 1867 by Los Angeles City Councilmembers James Kidd Miller and Alfred Chapman as The Los Angeles Gas Company, it became The Southern California Gas Company on June 8th of 1941. In 1973, it began construction on America's first plants that used thermal energy storage tanks for peak power management. Since then SoCalGas has served its community through clean energy production including renewable natural gas initiatives as well as programs like 'Save Energy Now' which offers financial discounts to low-income households who are prioritizing energy conservation efforts.
