The Seafarers International Union (SIU) is a labor union founded in 1938 by three seafaring unions that merged together. Since then, it has grown to become the largest maritime union in North America, representing about 35,000 members working on ships and barges of all sizes. The SIU provides job security for its members through collective bargaining agreements negotiated with companies employing them.
