The company was established in 1948 as Rural Motor Coach Lines, Inc., by J.E. Atwood and Robert Linton Smith with the intention of providing rural areas with dependable transportation at affordable prices. It changed its name to RURAL/METRO CORPORATION upon merging with Metro Transit Systems in 1986 and underwent further transformations throughout the 2000s when it acquired several former subsidiaries including SCAT Shortline Services (2002), Command Ambulance Service (2004) and Tri County Ambulance service (2005). In 2009, RURAL/METRO CORPORATION filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection under intensive debt pressure from creditors . Upon restructuring it emerged againin 2011 as RURAL / METRO RESTATED VALUE, focused on expanding its customer base through acquisitions and enhancing its existing operations via training programs for technical personnel such measures have enabled them to become one of the leading providers of medical transportand non-emergency patient transportation across various geographic locations within North America today.
