Regis Corporation is a publicly-traded American company that owns, franchises and operates hair salons and beauty supplies. Founded in 1922 as Regis Hair Care Centers by Paul Kunin, the name was later changed to Supercuts in 1975 when Kunin’s sons Jack, Bill and Paul took over management of the business. In 1983, founder of Regis Corporation Frank Reed purchased 20 Supercuts haircare centers to launch his own personal hair-care concept. The company expanded rapidly and by 1985 had 1,400 franchised locations throughout North America under its umbrella brands: Supercuts, Cost Cutters Family Hair Care and First Choice Haircutters. By 1990 the company had more than 3,000 locations across the United States; two years later it opened its first international franchise in London, England. Since then Regis Corporation has opened more than 10,500 salons around the world including Australia and Canada among others. Today its brands include Cost Cutters UK; MasterCuts; SmartStyle; Great Clips; City Looks Salons & Spas; JCPenney Salons & Day Spas and many other subsidiaries located throughout North America an Europe.
