Regions Hospital
Regions Hospital is a 509-bed, level I trauma center and teaching hospital located in St. Paul, Minnesota. Established in 1872 as St. Paul City Hospital, it was the first hospital to be built north of the Mississippi River. The city of Saint Paul took control of the facility in 1884 and renamed it Ramsey County General Hospital in 1918 before changing its name again to Regions Hospital in 1962 when the Ramsey County Medical Society created the non-profit organization Regency Health Services, Inc., which has owned and operated Regions ever since. It remains one of Minnesota’s largest hospitals with more than 1,000 providers delivering care throughout its 25 specialty departments including emergency medicine, stroke care, orthopedics and spine surgery, cardiology and heart surgery as well as many other offerings. Advancing treatments through medical research is also important to Regions; they are active members of both academic medical centers such as University of Minnesota/Minneapolis VA Research Partnership Program and regional organizations like HealthPartners Institute for Education & Research at Park Nicollet Institute.
