Winthrop-University Hospital is a non-profit teaching hospital located in Mineola, New York. Founded in 1841 as Nassau Hospital, the hospital began operations with 24 beds and six physicians. In 1918 it was renamed after John Winthrop Chanler and was affiliated with Cornell University Medical College until 1985 when it became an affiliate of Stony Brook University's School of Medicine and Health Sciences. The 250 bed facility offers comprehensive medical care across 27 specialities to the communities of Long Island, Queens, Brooklyn and beyond. It has earned numerous accolades, being recognized as "high performing" by U.S News & World Report for several years, ranking 69th overall in the 2019 - 2020 report as well as ranking 11th in pulmonology (lung disorders). Winthrop-University Hospital also includes an Adult Dialysis Center and Regional Perinatal Center providing specialized services to mothers at risk for high risk pregnancies or neonatal conditions within their newborns.
