Nebraska Methodist Health System, Inc. is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization that provides healthcare services throughout the Omaha area. It was founded in 1982 as a 20-bed hospital on Capitol Avenue in South Omaha by Reverend E.J. Savage and two other Methodist pastors. Over the years, it has grown to become an integrated health system with seven hospitals, more than 50 primary care and specialty medical clinics, a fitness center and numerous satellite locations throughout Nebraska and western Iowa. The system has expanded its clinical programs to include cancer care, orthopedics, heart & vascular care, mental health services and rehabilitation services including physical therapy. Nebraska Methodist Health System is affiliated with The Methodist Hospital Research Institute in Houston which conducts research related to cardiovascular diseases; diabetes; environmental toxicology; neuroscience; immunotherapy; and genomics/genetic engineering among others areas of focus. Additionally, Nebraska Methodist College provides quality nursing programs at its campus in Omaha where students have access to numerous simulation laboratories for hands-on experience prior to their clinical rotations at local medical facilities associated with the college’s affiliation agreement with Nebraska Methodist Health System..
