Meggitt USA Inc is a subsidiary of Meggitt PLC, a leading international engineering company that specializes in high performance components for the aerospace, defense and energy industries. Founded in 1947 as part of an iron foundry business based in Wandsworth, London, the company began to focus primarily on aircraft manufacture during World War I. By 1923 it had become a significant supplier to the emerging aviation industry. In 1939, the firm acquired Folland Aircraft Ltd and expanded their production facilities to include manufacturing aircraft control systems. During World War II they became one of Great Britain’s largest suppliers of military and civil aviation hardware. After the war ended, Meggitt PLC continued its growth by expanding into Europe and America with numerous acquisitions during this period including US-based subsidiaries such as Bordon Engineering Co., Willamar Aeronautical Corp., Readout Electronics & Systems Inc., OXO Electro Mechanical Co., Porter Machine Tool Mfg Co., and Robinson Avionics Inc.. These companies now form what is known today as Meggitt USA Inc, which serves customers around the world from bases in Santa Ana California; Indianapolis Indiana; Tulsa Oklahoma; Johnson City Tennessee; and Rockmart Georgia.
