Founded in 1981 by Bill Kimpton in San Francisco, California, the company operates over 70 hotels as well as 80 restaurants and bars across the United States. Kimpton also serves as a franchisor for its upscale boutique hotel brand. In 2016, it was successfully purchased by Intercontinental Hotels Groups (IHG) for $430 million dollars. Under IHG’s ownership, Kimpton continues to thrive with new openings across the US and Europe while maintaining their distinct personality-driven style at each location.
