Joy Global Inc
Joy Global Inc. is a leading manufacturer and supplier of mining equipment, parts and services for underground and surface mining. Founded in 1958 as the Simmons-Boardman Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, it began by manufacturing portable steam engines used to power saw mills, grain threshers, hay balers and other small machinery. In 1955 the company changed its name to Joy Manufacturing Co. and moved its headquarters to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where it focused on underground longwall mining equipment for coal mines. The 1980s brought an international expansion with subsidiaries opening up in Canada, Mexico, Great Britain and Australia with sales offices opened around the world including China and India. Over the years they have innovated their product lines to include high tech solutions for large haul trucks (P&H Electric Rope Shovels), jumbo drills (Montabert Hydraulic Rock Drills), cutting machines (Fletcher Roof Bolters) along with draglines (Marion). In 2011 Joy Global acquired LeTourneau Technologies making them one of the top three largest global manufacturers of heavy earth moving equipment alongside Caterpillar Inc. Today they offer an extensive line of products from continuous miners worldwide built off their fundamental core technology developed over 130 years ago – the conveyor system – creating a complete mine-to-market solution that meets customer needs at every point of production process..
