Herman Miller Inc. is an American company founded in 1905 by D.J. De Pree and his father-in-law, Herman Miller Sr., as The Star Furniture Co., in Zeeland, Michigan. Specializing at first in bedroom sets and dining room furniture, the company changed its name to Herman Miller in 1923 after a reorganization following D. J.'s death. Now based out of Holland, Michigan, Herman Miller is well known for their iconic modernist designs which focus on ergonomics and human centered design principles produced by famous designers such as Charles Eames or George Nelson during the mid-twentieth century Modernism period.
