Hartford Healthcare (formerly Hartford Hospital) is a non-profit healthcare system serving the State of Connecticut and beyond with seven hospitals, a comprehensive behavioral health network, a large physician group, and multiple innovative partnerships. Founded in 1854 as Hartford Retreat for the Insane, it was later reincorporated as Hartford Hospital in 1975. The hospital became part of the larger Hartford Healthcare system in 1995 when it joined forces with several other organizations such as New Britain General Hospital, Windham Community Memorial Hospital, and Samaritan Health Services. Today, Hartford Healthcare is one of the largest private teaching hospitals in Connecticut and offers an extensive range of primary care services including pediatrics, geriatrics, family practice/internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology and urgent care; specialty medical services; rehabilitation services; home health care; long-term acute care; preventative screenings; outpatient surgery centers; specialized diagnostics; and community outreach programs.
