Grady Memorial Hospital Corporation
Grady Memorial Hospital Corporation is the largest public hospital system in Georgia and one of the largest in the United States, serving a diverse population of over 1.3 million people across 10 counties. The company was founded in 1892 as a charity hospital to serve Atlanta's poor and indigent and was named for Henry W. Grady, editor of the Atlanta Constitution newspaper at that time. In 1948, it became an independent nonprofit corporation governed by its own Board of Trustees and adopted its current name, Grady Memorial Hospital Corporation (GMHC). Today GMHC operates two adult hospitals – Grady Memorial Hospital in downtown Atlanta and Hughes Spalding Children’s Hospital at Grady – along with multiple health centers throughout the city providing primary care services to underserved communities. It also offers specialized services such as burn treatment, trauma care, behavioral health services, substance abuse treatment, HIV/AIDS services, sleep disorders center and more.
