GameStop Corporation, formerly known as the Sony Store, is a leading global specialty retailer of video game hardware, personal computer and console software, related accessories and other consumer electronic products. Founded in 1984 by James McCurry and Gary Kusin in Dallas, Texas, the company has since expanded to become one of the largest physical media retailers in the world. As of 2020, it is ranked second globally among dedicated video game retailers with a presence that spans some 4,413 stores across 15 countries including United States, Canada, Australia and parts of Europe. Apart from its brick-and-mortar stores it also operates ecommerce websites GameStop.com and EBGames.ca which provides customers with access to an expansive selection of new and pre-owned gaming products along with digital downloads for select titles. The group's operations span more than just retailing: It runs Game Informer magazine – the world’s most widely read gaming magazine – holds esports tournaments via its subsidiary GMG Production LLC., operates app stores and provides online streaming services via its cloud gaming technology platform GameCloud LLC.
